Judo is an Olympic sport and martial art that originated in Japan over 100 years ago. It is the most widely practiced martial art worldwide. The word Judo itself means, “the gentle way.” It is a grappling martial art that does NOT involve kicks or punches, but rather, incorporates throws, pins and submission holds. Not only is Judo one of the best forms of exercise available, it is also a very practical form of self-defence.
During your initial training, it is completely normal to feel overwhelmed with new terminology and strange body movements. Over the first few months, students will be introduced to the basics of Judo including falls, throws, pins and grappling techniques. In addition to learning basic Judo skills, our goal is to help increase your level of general conditioning, fitness and coordination. Each class will consist of stretching, conditioning exercises, Judo skill training and basic judo knowledge.
Judo is unique and instills in its students: confidence, self-esteem and the ability to focus. The sport also develops a level of body awareness and coordination that makes every participant a stronger and healthier individual. Eventhough Judo is an Olympic Sport other sports use the fundamental principles of Judo and can help your child with AFL, Rugby League, Soccer and many other sports.
